4 Questions you need to ask before investing in Skin Care products

STOP!!!! Step away from the beauty counter and put that Serum down.

It’s easy to get suckered into buying that super expensive jar of ‘Crème De La whatever’ with Gold Flakes in it when walking through your up-market department store. The person at the counter says to you “Kim Kardashian exclusively uses this product” or “This is how Jennifer Lopez is able to look like she’s in her 20’s at the age of 47”. This coupled with all the Ads you see around you makes it hard not to take the plunge and go for it; because if Kim Kardashian and J-Lo use it then it must be amazing… Right?

But how do you know if that exclusive product Kim and J-Lo endorse will actually do what it claims? Before investing in Skin Care ask your beauty therapist, dermal clinician or the beauty counter person, the following 4 Questions. It’s a sure-fire way to exclude the products that are just a waste of your hard-earned money.

1. Does it have a delivery system?

This is the most important questions that needs to be answered when investing in Skin Care.If a product has active ingredients within it, how effective is that ingredient going to be if it can’t reach the area it is intended to reach? This means that in order for your Skin Care products to be effective, the Skin protective barriers need to be by-passed in order for the active ingredients in your products to have a positive effect on your skin. It is simple, if it does not have a delivery system then the products and ingredients cannot target your skin concerns, thus they cannot change or improve your skin.

2. Is it a cosmeceutical skin care product?

Cosmeceuticals are advanced Skin Care products that combine cosmetics with pharmaceuticals. They do not just improve the surface appearance of skin, like cosmetics do, but actually improve the biological function in the deeper levels of the skin using active ingredients. Often the active ingredients in cosmeceuticals have undergone clinical tests to prove that they actually work, rather than just masking conditions superficially. Cosmeceuticals are becoming more and more sought after in the skin care world, as there is far more substance behind their claims to improve your skin health.

3. Does it have active ingredients?

A lot of what you find in Skin Care products are just ingredients that are filler ingredients. They don’t do much besides make the product feel and smell good. When deciding to go for a Skin Care range always make sure they contain active ingredients such as: Vitamin A esters, Vitamin C, B & E.

4. Can the claims be proven with clinical studies? As well as before and after pictures?

When a company is claiming that their products can have a positive effect on your skin, ask them if the products have undergone clinical tests to prove that they actually work, rather than just masking conditions superficially. Also, ask for evidence of this through before and after pictures. If they can’t give you evidence, then most likely their claims are guaranteed to be false.
